Below are the final draft re. Samba logo . I'd like to hear from you whether it is a " YES" or " NO" before I move on to design the samba school flag.
P.S. The white line outside the " Brisbane Samba School" is just an artifact, can fix it by the commercial printer.

Brian, thanks again for your creativity.
Although I like the drawing of the drum, I don't think it should replace the current logo (the circle with the two drumsticks). I still like to use the drum for T-shirts, and even flags and banners though.
I like our current logo as it combines a textual description of who we are with a graphical representation of what we do!
So why did you asked me to redesign the logo ? You should have told me earlier back in April, save me a lot of time.
Brian, sorry if there's any confusion, but I never did ask you to redesign the logo? The drum looks great, and we can/will still use it in many ways, so you didn't waste any time at all. I did ask you about the flag though, and about the T-shirt. Maybe that's where the confusion came from? Sorry again if I wasn't clear.
Just spoke with Brian, and we believe there has been some miscommunication when we had the brainstorm session: we did speak about the style of drawings as a consistent theme throughout the website, and I think someone then mentioned that the logo had to change as well, and we may have discussed re-drawing (but not redesigning) the logo in Brian's style...
communication is overrated
I like Brian's design. I'd like to cast my vote to use it as our logo.
Although I still stand by my previous posting, I think it would be useful in this discussion what exactly we mean with the logo. So are we talkling about just the little thingy in the corner of the website, or something we carry around on banners, t-shirts and (allegedly for some people) underwear. (Sorry Patty, it was too big to keep secret) (too big a secret, that is, no comment regarding the underwear)
I personally think this logo would be very good anywhere - including slightly uncomfortable white jackets.
According to the Oxford dictionary , logo is ..." non-heraldic device chosen as a badge of organization and used in advertisements , on notepaper."
I select the "floating" surdo because it represent samba school as a loud percussion music. Furthermore, the tilting of the surdo represent the dynamic and mobile nature of the music. I can draw a straight surdo but it look too structured and static.
Marcel, can you be my business agent and market the logo to mental health industries ? ..."white" jacket, Tazer gun, capsicum spray . The sky is our limit !
Will see what I can do, Brian. Unfortunately, I'm still quite restricted in my movements. Do you think you can do the Tazer gun next to the surdo??
Speaking of definitions, I'm in the process of creating a brand identity for a marketing program at work. Because the Government already has a 'logo', we're not allowed to design a new 'logo' for this program. However, we are (at this stage) allowed to design a 'graphic element'. The Government actually has its own definition of a 'graphic element', which is not to be confused with, or placed too close to, the logo.
do you ever feel you are working with your hands tied behind your back, Paul? I know the feeling. (mind you, it's not so bad once the numbness sets in, and you forget you were actually capable of doing something)
