Walk against want gig

As you are aware, our next gig is on Sunday 7 October: Walk against Want, with Oxfam Australia. The walk starts in Southbank, in front of QPAC, then goes over the goodwill bridge to the botanical gardens, makes a garden tour there (full circle), then goes back the same way. It's about 5km.

Now, I was thinking that's a bit long (especially with a 12kg surdo). So, I discussed a few options with the organisation:
  • we just play at the start of the walk on a little stage
  • we lead the walk for some time, than quietly walk back
  • we lead the walk for some time, wait for the walkers to come back, then escort them on the final stretch back
Personally I think the last option is the best. We could walk say till the middle of the river on the goodwill bridge, wait there, and walk back.

Any comments/ideas?

I like the first option, with or without surdo.

We could play at the start, lead until the start of the Goodwill bridge and step aside there. Then, by the time the walkers return, we would play from the side of the south bank somewhere (e.g., grassy knoll near the Italian place @ citycat stop, or qpac plaza) to welcome them back.

Alternatively we could just play at the start and go for beers. I mean, it's a walk aaginst want and I often am wanting of a beer

Welcome Art to the blog!

We play community gigs regularly. It won't be long until the next one (one week actually).

Marcel, I have a bad feeling about parading past the grassy knoll...

Paul,
I think you would actually be right in feeling uncomfortable there. Those bridges on the other side of the river look a lot like the triple underpass...
[hurray - this is my first back-in-brissie post!]

I'm convinced already. No parading near grassy knolls, triple underpasses or book depositories. One set of samba, surrounded by armed guards, and it's off to the pub for Primavera.

PS Welcome back Marcel,
It's been quiet in cyberspace without you.
